Conner Swales

Footpaths Through the Ages

Swales are shallow, linear depressions formed by human and animal traffic over many years of use. They are physical traces of El Camino Real, which followed Indigenous pathways across Texas.

Six swales on Cedar Hill Nature Preserve and one swale on the Baumann property have been identified by GTI Environmental archeologists. On the Walk, you will see four of the swales and actually walk on three, allowing you to retrace footpaths that were used for thousands of years.
