The walk is 2.2 miles round trip. You will be on pleasant woodland trails. All the trails are natural and of moderate difficulty to walk on, so watch out for holes, sticks, snakes, and wildlife. Half of the route is through a working cattle ranch. If cows are present, do not approach them.
This retracement trail is a small part of El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail that passes through a portion of the Ranchería Grande area. The trail was initially formed by Indigenous People and was ever-changing due to weather, relations among tribes, terrain, settlement, and modes of transportation.
While the Walk is on private land, the owners are opening this agritourism 2.2-mile walk for controlled public access with the help of:
Our thanks to everyone involved.
Walk to the Rancheria Grande’s mission is to provide opportunities for the enhancement of knowledge of the environment, and to further provide visual resources that will create an appreciation of the native livelihood that our forefathers experienced as they established an existence that continues to inspire and amaze us today.
